Business intelligence (BI) is the study of how organizations use technology and where they make improvements to improve productivity, quality, efficiency, value, and cost. By collecting, managing, analyzing, and acting on that information, BI professionals help businesses become more successful. Businesses are acting on their own intelligence by adding, removing, or modifying elements of their daily operations. If they are doing this successfully, then they are on the right track. If they are not, however, then they are falling behind the competition.

Business analysis and management systems offer many opportunities. At best, business intelligence helps the whole organization to work more efficiently and achieve its objectives.

At worst, however, it results in employee dissatisfaction, confusion, cost, and wasted effort. To make matters worse, some companies have become skilled at installing inferior software, using old, outdated technologies, or buying too many expensive components. When these practices start happening regularly, companies lose the ability to gather, manage, analyze, and act on their unique environment.

When using enterprise technology, there is an opportunity to improve productivity by combining systems. For instance, an e-commerce web application can integrate with a CRM, sales, Web services, or customer relationship management (CRM) system. The ability to do this is called an enterprise data warehouse (EDW). The EDW provides the data for all data related to a given business application, including data from all business processes.

Businesses collect, process, store, retrieve, manage, and analyze data in EDW according to specific needs. Some data may be used for analytics, such as performance evaluation and trend analysis. Others may be used for strategic decisions, such as understanding customer needs and understanding competitors.

Still, others may be used for operational efficiencies, such as collecting and analyzing contact information of key employees. The ability to extract, analyze and deliver information in a flexible and customized manner based on the specifics of each company’s requirement is the key benefit of EDW.

Data mining is another aspect of enterprise technology that helps collect and provide data in EDW in a complete and accurate manner. With the help of data mining, companies gain the ability to extract, organize, standardize, format, count, extract, summarize, and interpret enterprise-wide data in a quick time.

In addition, EDW also allows companies to make more informed decisions based on collective intelligence. In other words, E DW makes businesses and IT managers more aware of how the various pieces of the organization fit together, allowing them to form more strategic plans and solve problems faster.

Enterprise Data Management (EDM) is another way of categorizing enterprise technology solutions. EDM involves the development and implementation of a comprehensive data management system that takes care of the entire lifecycle of the enterprise data, from creation to disposal.

This is a system that makes information easy to access, analyze, save, distribute, and search. Enterprises will find it useful to implement enterprise-wide data management (EDDM) system that will include application service provider (ASP) tools, business intelligence (BI) tools, enterprise service manager (ESM), and business process modelling (BPM). With the help of EDW, companies will also find it useful to have ERP and software functionality built into their ERP system.

Organizational Data Management (ODM) also falls under EDW, where the aim is to maintain and manage an organization’s entire data management processes. ODM helps in the management and coordination of work flows across the enterprise, business process, IT infrastructure, people and other resources.

An ODM solution also helps in the detection and avoidance of data leaks and data corruption that can lead to severe data losses. It also helps in the automation of internal business processes through the creation and use of workflow applications and other tools.

These are some of the most crucial enterprise data management technologies that help enterprises achieve their goals by providing them with a robust enterprise data management system. However, there are several more technologies that are used for enterprise data management.

Enterprises will find it useful to evaluate the technologies that they use and the benefits they get from using these solutions. They should also be able to choose the technology that best suits their needs. For instance, some enterprise software is designed for simple data access while others are meant for more complex activities.
