Dogs are supposed to be the man’s best friend, but with the wrong treatment, they can turn into beasts capable of ripping limbs off and even killing. While almost all dogs are dangerous especially if aggravated, some breeds are more dangerous than others. Here are the most dangerous dog breeds 2016, based on the number of fatalities and bites caused by each breed.
If the number of the reported bites and deaths caused by this dog breed are anything to go by, then the PitBull could as well be the most dangerous dog breed in the United States. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), PitBull attacks have led to 60 fatalities over a period of 18 years.
The Rottweiler has a history of being an aggressive dog breed and was even used by the Roman army at some point. Named after Rottweil, a town in Germany, Rottweilers were initially used as herding dogs. According to the CDC, Rottweiler attacks resulted in an estimated 30 fatalities, half the number caused by PitBulls.
The German Shepherd
Regarded as one of the most intelligent dogs breeds the German Shepherd is also very popular the United States. German Shepherds have a bad temperament, and if not handled with care they can turn into brutal killers. German shepherds are known to kill smaller dogs. Over a span of 18 years, this dog breed has reportedly caused more than 18 deaths according to the CDC.
Husky dogs are used as sled dogs. The Husky breed was predominately reared in North America but is now a common sight in lower continental US where they are kept as pets. Husky has a thick fur, a characteristic that has enabled them to survive in more temperate locations in the United States. The CDC has it that Husky bites and attacks caused 14 deaths in the same period, making them the 4th most dangerous dog breeds in the United States.
The Alaskan Malamute
Originally from Alaska, the malamutes are used as sled dogs, just like the Huskies. One of the earliest dog breeds to have introduced to the United States, the Alaskan Malamute has the same physical traits as the Siberian Huskies. While Alaska Malamutes are highly energetic, the energy has to be used in a positive manner to prevent them from becoming aggressive. The Malamutes were responsible for 12 deaths during CDC’s survey period.
Chow Chows are one of the most adorable dogs, but looks can be deceiving. They are stubborn and dominant. Chow Chows need to be adequately trained at a young age to help tone down their aggressive nature. The CDC reports that chow chows attacks ended up in 8 deaths during the reporting period.
